Week #35 - Eva

One fresh winter day I was out in the open where I saw a creek making a ripple sound as I walked past. Then I saw something running through the trees on the other side. I asked my mum what could that possibly be? She said it would just be a bird flying round the trees, I asked if I was allowed to take a look. Mum said yes just be back before sundown I scurried off to find it in the distance and  I hurried before dark and I found a beautiful golden retriever as I heard mum call .

Week #35 - Hayley

I was walking along the running creek beside our house. I saw something lurking around in the grey shadows by the peach tree. I silently moved towards the thing then I Jumped across the river then it started to run. Finally I caught a Puppy With a powerade plastic bottle around its neck. I held the puppy and ran as fast as I could with the puppy in my arms. I burst through the door and rushed for the scissors. I cut the bottle off and the puppy started to Breathe. 1 year Later. A picture of me and River….

Week #35 - Cameron

One morning I was going for a walk down near the river but my dog wanted to come too. He followed me all the way down to the dark cold river. But he got tired and he needed a drink. So he walked down to the river for a drink. But I said “no, don't go into the river.” But he couldn't hear me because he's a naughty dog. I jumped in after him to save him from the deep waters of the river. But I slipped over and broke my leg before I could get to the edge.

Week #35 - Cecilia

One day in the Woods there lived a kid named Max and a dog called Wonder. Wonder was always brave. One day, Wonder was playing tag with Max then ... Wonder lost the child soon he found his home he was happy then he looked up and the house was burnt down. His face filled up with tears, his family and his owners were gone, he ventured into the woods then found a lake he stood on the rock and looked up at the trees and sky. Thinking of them everyday, Wonder knew they were still with him in his heart.

Week #35 - Tom

It was a cold and frosty morning. I brought my dog for a walk. We went down to the edge of the river; my dog was staring at the water as if it were a dog bone. I tried to call him but he wouldn't come to me. I went to him and he was so desperate to jump! In the end he jumped. I knew he would do it. I had to go get him because he started going down. In the end I got him out. I had to bring him home to our nice, cozy fire.

Week #35 - Olivia B.

The dog sat motionless on the rock. as the girl walked closer she  saw it had a thorn in her paw. “Now now” the girl said in a loving voice. She pulled it out. The dog was so happy. Walking slowly up to the girl she licked her face. “I'll look after you, but you’ll need a name. I think I’ll  call you Lulu.” The dog licked  her again. “Let's go home and have something to eat.” said the girl. When they got home they had something to eat. I love you LuLu she whispered softly.

Week #35 - Portia

One bright and shiny morning I was going to the river. When I arrived there, I Saw a friendly dog.I thought to myself “who owns this dog or is it homeless?” So I went looking around the river to see if anyone owned him but no one did so I kept him. Then I took a photo with him in it because I thought that he was quite cute; the background with the river and the trees was also quite beautiful. The dog also wanted to have a big drink of water.I called the adorable dog Tim O’Malley.

Week #35 - William

One weekend I was out possuming with my dog and there was a river in the way. As we walked down the river there was a shallow bit that we crossed over with my gumboots. We found some trees with some good possum sign. As we carried on walking around the grass we found some more good possum tracks. When we finished setting the possum traps we  went home. The next morning we went to check the traps and there were a lot of possums on the traps. We got 60 possums in all of the traps.

Week #35 - Delilah

I was desperately trying to get away from the dirty pack of mutts that were chasing me. I ran, I ran until I came to the edge of a wide river. There was no escape, and the large pack was drawing nearer. Thinking fast, I leapt. My four paws plunged into the ice cold water. I struggled in the water, I was struggling to keep my little head out of the deep river. I was growing scared. Finally, I scrambled out of the water, and looked back solemnly at the pack that had started to turn back and give up.

Week #35 - Olivia R.

I was walking down a creek with my dog . But suddenly that creek turned into a fast flowing river!  My dog ran as fast as he could to a big rock  and looked straight at the sun. I saw him looking at the sun. I ran to him. On the way to him. I tripped over a big log ! I got back up but soon after I slipped on the slippery mossy rocks I told my dog it was time to go home so we ran to the car and got out the first aid kit and bandaged myself up.

Week #35 - Garath

The dog looked up and saw the sky and then jumped into the river but quickly got out. He was freezing so he rubbed on a tree. He was hurt on the leg because there was a stick in the river, a slippery one. The dog’s leg got stuck in that stick. Soon the dog got home and his owner fixed his leg. The next day he didn’t go back to that river instead he went to a tree to scratch against then went back home to play outside. Yesterday was really scary for the poor dog!

Week #35 - Audric

‘Ahhh, such a beautiful and tranquil scene’ I thought. The small lake glistened like glass as it reflected the bright, blue sky and the striking white clouds. A few dark brown, slanted trees lay on their sides, partially broken by a one point five magnitude earthquake. The evergreen shrubs were as thin as aluminium. The ghostly trees had only a few leaves hanging on to the branches. Multi-coloured leaves were scattered along the almost muddy ground. The gigantic trees were being stripped completely bare by the Autumn winds. ‘I’ve never been so relaxed in my life!’ I exclaimed out loud.

Week #35 - Harriett

I was sitting on the bank of the river, when out of nowhere a beautiful golden retriever popped up on a rock that was leaning over the bank. He jumped into the cold river and swam over to the other side so I got up and ran to a tree that was bending over the river. I took my shoes off and jumped into the cold river and swam to the dog. I looked to see if there was a collar on the dog; there was not so I thought he must be wild. I hopped out of the river…

Week #35 - Braedon

We took a 2 hour drive just to come to this beautiful river. We saw 7 fish in the water. We saw a dog with a bunny in his mouth, but it was only a toy. I went to go pat it, it was really nice. I saw his owners, I took it  back over to them. They said “thank you for bringing our dog, Fred back to us.”  Dad cast his line out and pulled out a salmon. He said “this is going to be a good dinner tonight.” The dog leaped out of the water and ran away.

Week #35 - Tegan

One sunset morning I was going for a walk and then all of a sudden I was at this big creek with the softest water I had ever seen. As I was sitting on a log in front of the creek I spotted a dog splashing around in the water. I said to the dog ‘’here doggie come over here I will take a photo of you and the creek’’. The dog came over then I got the dog and put him in this really good position and took the photo. It was the best photo I had ever taken.

Week #35 - Arlo

The dog's excitement was higher than ever. His owner Tom, had just been away for a  holiday and had just come back just a few minutes ago. They played their favourite game, catch. Tom threw the ball and the dog brought it back, Tom threw the ball and the dog brought it back. But one time the ball did not come back. That was because Tom threw it too far and it went into the small river not so far away. The dog's happiness disappeared in an instant and so did the boy's. Would he ever get the ball  back?

Week #35 - Angus

One  stunning day in Ireland we were on holiday. We saw a pond and I said to my mum and my dad “can we go?” I got to the motel my parents said we can go tomorrow. The next day we were ready to go so we hopped into the car and we took off. When we got there  we saw two trees but they had no leaves on them because it was Autumn. There were spiky rocks everywhere. It was really beautiful. The water was freezing. Dad said “time to go home!” Ireland was the most beautiful place.

Week #35 - Jacob

It was a dreary day, my dog, Cosmo and I were going for a trail walk. We were about half way home, when Cosmo suddenly ran off track, so I followed him. I walked through some bushes, and there was Cosmo, in front of a river, I looked towards my right, and there was a beautiful view, with an ugly tree in the way, but I ignored the tree, and kept staring at the stream. I took out my phone, and took a photo. Perfect! The first thing I did with the photo was to share it with my family.

Week #35 - Danielle

I was walking in the domain and my greyhound, Kopu, decided it would be a good idea to jump into the pond. It was not a good idea because now we have to drive a soaking wet dog home and get the car wet and stinky too. So we got home and the car was wet. Kopu did not care at all because she thought it would be an even better idea to go on my mum's bed because she was cold, good idea kopu. So that’s my day, how was your day?

Week #34 - Hayley

“BANG BANG BANG!” The war had started and there were bombs going off like raindrops falling out of the sky. Everyone was yelling and a lady told me to get into a box. I got in. I felt myself getting lifted onto what I think was a chair. Then I sprang out of the box and a raccoon was staring at me. I shrieked. The van stopped. I Got back into the box and there was a leaf in the box I turned it over. It read “I know who you are and I saw you get into that box.”

Week #34 - Delilah

There I was, a small racoon, venturing out into the big city. I puffed up my tiny chest and soared to the sky, landing on a fence. I jumped again, aiming for the parked van on the corner. Instead of landing on the van, I fell into an old cardboard box. I scrambled inside the box, desperately trying to get out. I jumped out of the box and brushed off the leaf that had landed on my head. I jumped into the van and landed on an antique chair, I going to let the van drive me to my adventure.

Week #34 - Pearl

I was stacking the chairs one by one, but when I got to one of the chairs there was a small box sitting on the bright blue chair. As I opened the small box, I noticed that there was a letter. The letter read “be aware there is a racoon with a single leaf, just one single leaf.” I opened the box and there was no racoon, only the leaf. I walked outside only to notice that there were no leaves on any trees. I looked up into the sky wondering “where did they get this leaf, wait I know!”

Week #34 - Amwolf

On a warm, nice, summer morning, while the sky was still pink and orange, one lonely scared racoon was lying motionless in a small, cramped box on the side of the road. The racoon was very hungry and had been ditched by its owner, Jack, 4 miserable days ago. He had been sitting on the antique chair when Jack scooped him up and put him in a box. He had been thinking of Jack ever since. When suddenly, something fell from the sky and landed on the box. He peered through the narrow gap and saw a leaf . Autumn had come.

Week #34 - Eva

As I walk down the road on a cold wet windy day, I can see a leaf fly up into the stormy sky . Then something makes a big hiss sound. I look around but there is no one there. Then I see an old worn out box . “But how?” I thought to myself “boxes can't talk can they?” I lift up the big old worn out box and out pops a big fat scary racoon with a big scar down its stomach. Then the racoon ran off to the old farm barn and inside was an old rusty chair .

Week #34 - Garath

It was a sunny day. The sky was bright from the sun when an ordinary mysterious box came in. I wondered what was in the box , I opened it and poof a baby racoon popped out trying to look for her mother. I was in shock, but I realized that the racoon was lost. I decided to look after her so while I was driving home I gently put the racoon in the chair that I bought with a leaf because I knew that they liked leaf’s. I still wondered if the mother was in Auckland looking for her baby.

Week #34 - Portia

One very different, weird day, I woke up seeing no sun or sky. I thought it was just that that was different but maybe not. I saw a chair and a box that came out of nowhere. All the chairs that I have in my house are blue I thought, so it was weird when a red chair was here. So I opened the box and I saw a racoon that was eating a leaf. I was quite annoyed that a racoon eating a leaf was at my house. There was not even a letter or anything like that!

Week #34 - Tegan

It had been such a long time since I had gone outside into the dusty, creaky old barn. I was walking to the barn, I was shocked that it had been destroyed. I said to myself ‘’racoons, those nasty wee things.’’ As I was running home in the early morning where the sky is pink and beautiful, a leaf dropped on my head. I looked up and it was a RACOON!!! I ran back to the house. When I was back at the house mum was sitting in her favourite chair. I ran to my room and got a box.

Week #34 - Cecilia

I woke up in the morning. I wondered if my mum or dad was cooking. I went to look myself then I saw dad cooking “morning Dad, what's for breakfast?”  “Eggs and bacon,” Dad says. I sit in the chair and I wait. Well I waited. I went on the balcony and I saw the beautiful sky . Then dad calls “breakfast is ready” and I sit in the chair once again after eating. I saw mum with a big box with a racoon inside. I saw a leaf that said Cecilia thanks you mum and dad a lot.

Week #34 - Jacob

On one normal day, there was a beautiful sky , I was running in the Ashburton Industrial Area. I was running down the hill and about to come back up when I saw a chair in the sewage dip, someone must have left it there. I walked closer to the chair when I noticed there was a box on it. On top of the box was a leaf that read: DO NOT OPEN this box because there is a radioactive racoon in it and it will eat your head off. And that was all it read. I opened it. Oh poop.

Week #34 - Olivia R

“I was sitting on my chair looking at the gloomy sky , when the mailman came and dropped off a box. I thought to myself, is it my makeup or my new swimsuit? I couldn't believe it was a racoon mother with her kits. I went to ask the mailman if this was for me but he said that it was for number 63 Leaf Street. I stuttered “umm okay well I guess I can have some good racoons as long as my family doesn't find out. Okay little guys I'll feed you and take care of you  okay time for bed.”

Week #34 - Harriett

One day, I was sitting on a chair looking at the sky. I blinked, and then I felt the soft touch of a leaf on my face. I got up and then went to find my pet raccoon in her box. I gave her some food, then I went back to my chair. Then, when I got back to my chair I saw a very odd box, so I opened it. Inside of the box there was a very messy note saying pick me up I did and there was a leaf inside of it.

Week #34 - Audric

I was sitting on my comfy chair relaxing in my house when I heard a gigantic crash! Suddenly, I found a strange box on the floor. It looked like it had fallen out of the sky , but that wasn’t possible. I cautiously walked up to it and opened it. “AHHH!!!” I screamed as a dirty racoon with a leaf on its head jumped out. ‘Oh, just a racoon’ I thought. Then, I cautiously picked the box up, opened the door and threw it out. I started to think about how the box came in. ‘There’s no possibility…’ I thought. Unless...

Week #34 - Arlo

It was a nice afternoon, the sun was out, the sky was blue and birds were chirping everywhere. The calm feeling was rudely interrupted by a cargo plane flying really low through the milky fluffy clouds. Adrenaline rushed through my head as it started to drop brown squares which from my distance seemed to look like boxes. Box after box drop out of it crashing into trees making leaf after leaf fall down. A raccoon started running across the road trying to find safety. A plastic chair tipped over and all of a sudden the plane had left as fast as it had surprisingly come.

Week #34 - Tom

The suspicious box sat on the porch. The sky was awesome. The box looked as if it had been there since last Christmas! I thought to myself “what is in it?” I sneakily opened it and something in that box had claws. I opened it a little more and it was a racoon. It pounced at me and I fell into a chair. I ran out of the house and it followed me. I wondered what his problem was. The raccoon ran out the door and I thought it was coming for me; it wasn't. It ran down the road one leaf lay there.

Week #34 - Angus

One fine day I was walking along  the path and  then something happened. A box fell from the sky so I picked it up and then I ran home. I slowly picked it up. I saw a leaf and a racoon. It was still alive. I did not know what to do so I closed it and ran back to the spot that it came from but when I put it down I saw a piece of paper. Then I ran home and then another box fell from the sky. It was another one but it was just a leaf.

Week #34 - Will

One day I went down to my hut and found a box. Then I tried to open it with a hammer but it didn't work. Then I tried to smash it with the sledgehammer on the side of the box. In the box there was a raccoon. The racoon had a leaf in its mouth and it said can you adopt me. Then I took it back up to the house to feed it.  My dog sniffed the racoon and thought it was cool. Then I took it back down to my hut to do some building. It was fun.

Week #34 - Danielle

I looked out my window and the sky was blue and the sun was shining. My friend said she was going to drop off her pet racoon Luna because she was moving to a different country. I was sitting on my chair. Then I heard a (tot tot) there was no car but there was a box in my driveway so I ran out the door to see what it was. It was Luna and she was sleeping on a pillow shaped like a leaf.  So I took her inside and got her cage.

Week #33 - Amwolf

It was a dark and gloomy evening at our local graveyard. We were supposed to be going trick or treating, but we followed one of my friends who thought they knew a short cut. We stumbed our toes on the ancient graves and when I passed my Great Grandad’s grave stone, we all heard a noise. We heard deafening screams that echoed through the cold night like zombies. I was petrified. I saw a couple of the graves lids started moving off their coffins. I jumped, scared out of my skin and sprinted out of the graveyard, never looking back.

Week #33 - Jacob

It was a dark, miserable night, I woke up needing to go to the bathroom. I climbed sleepily out of bed, taking my time, I suddenly tripped over something hard, and it hurt! I started feeling around, and phew, it was just a pile of Lego! I made my way carefully out into the hallway, I stopped at the corner where I turn to go into the bathroom. Did I hear a noise? No, it must just be my imagination. Something banged into my leg! The deafening screams echoed through the cold night!  “Meow”.  Phew, it was just my cat!

Week #33 - Tegan

It was a misty Autumn evening around the bonfire out on the stony sandy beach. All of a sudden the deafening screams echoed through the cold night, alerting me that maybe something terrible had happened. I jumped to my feet screaming out ‘’IS EVERYONE OK!!!’’ there was no answer for a few minutes, that seemed like an eternity. So I bellowed again; still no answer. I went around the other side of the bonfire to find them. Here they were trying to rescue a howling dog that had been caught in a possum trap. Thankfully his injuries were nothing major.

Week #33 - Hayley

As we disappeared into the night we stumbled among dead snakes and broken branches. The moon was out but it was a quarter moon so it did not shine much. No one could see anything. Then I looked down. There was something red and orange but I couldn't make out what it was. I went to walk around the thing but tripped. The thing gave a scream, and the deafening screams echoed into the cold night. I screamed and the thing screamed. Dad threw a torch at me and turned it on. It was a fox cub!

Week #33 - Pearl

I was leaping from one lily pad to the other then I slipped into the still water, at that moment I realised I could breathe underwater. As I kept sinking down to the bottom, I shut my eyes and when I opened them I could see that I was in another world. In this strange world kids voices were trapped in jars. The deafening screams echoed through the cold night. I stood still as the wind went through my clothes making me cold, I couldn’t speak I was petrified, so I just stood there helpless thinking what should I do.

Week #32 - Angus

One spooky Halloween  night, my brother and i were walking down a dimly lit street.  We knew people had heard strange noises here before. We heard  that strange noise! We tried to ignore it but it got louder as we were walking.  It was coming from a old tin rubbish bin.  What should we do?  We decided that I would go and investigate what the noise was. I slowly lifted the lid. Should I really do this?   My brother nodded at me. As I did a cat lept out of the tin and ran away, it must have been in their for days. Poor thing.

Week #32 - Delilah

We fell silent as we disappeared into the night. The moon glowed bright as we stepped further into the dark. Trees loomed over us. We crept forward to that one working street light. The light glowed over a cardboard box, we drew nearer and nearer to the box, until we were standing right infront of it. I dared to step forward and open it, Picking up the box I opened it, inside was a was a package wrapped in gold tissue paper, and it was rather small, I dug my hand into the gold paper and presented a gold key.

Week #32 - Audric

I stumbled through the forest, my legs burning and my heart pounding in my chest, something was following me, but I had absolutely no idea what. I came across a cave full of bats, and a rocky, old cliff ledge full of brown, polluted water. I peered down the cliff, I couldn’t go there, it was full of man-eating crocodiles! ‘That means I should go into the cave.’ I thought. ‘But should I really do this?’ I wondered. I realized I had no choice and a limited amount of time left so I ran into the cave, darkness enveloping me…

Week #32 - Olivia R.

The clock struck 12, at the same time the wolves began howling at the moon. My friends and I had been at a full moon party where we stuffed mooncakes in our mouths. I had to go fast because I was meant to be home at 12, we disappeared into the night . In the darkness on my way home, my phone rang. I answered with “hello” but no one was there. I started to freak out, then a car pulled to the side behind us, it was a policeman asking us to get in, but should I really do this?

Week #32 - Arlo

I had never been so excited in my life, the stranger on the other end of the phone had told me that I had won a ticket to go bungee jumping. Here I am on the edge of a 100m cliff, below me all I see is kilolitres of water crashing against the sharp boulders that had  once been part of the enormous cliff. I was starting to get a little bit terrified of what awaited me at the bottom of the massive drop. What if the rope comes loose, I then thought to myself, but should  really do this?

Week #32 - Pearl

It was the windiest night of the year and I was having a sleepover at my friend Chloe’s house. Her brother kept coming into our bedroom uninvited and telling us scary stories. At first we giggled but then became scared. He challenged us to truth or dare and when it was my turn, I chose dare. He dared me to swap the labels on his mum’s jars in the pantry. I crept into the kitchen and walked into the pantry, I thought to myself,  “Should I really do this?” Suddenly there was a noise behind me, it was the wind.

Week #32 - Hayley

We were going to travel through the night. Dad said there would be less traffic on the road, but I was not impressed as that meant less to see in the dark.  The car was packed and we were set for the long drive to Invercargill for grandma's 90th birthday. We all settled into our seats and headed down the driveway, the radio played gently in the background. The moon shone as bright as the stars, as we headed down the gravel road towards the highway. We finally hit the quiet, dark highway and we disappeared into the night.
